Both Nothing Phone (3a) Pro and Samsung Galaxy A55 are quite popular among camera enthusiasts in the sub-₹30,000 price segment. That's because they offer a powerful triple camera system, a great display, and a long-lasting battery, among other features.
However, on-paper specs don't say a lot, which is why I've decided to compare the two in every aspect to find out which is truly the better smartphone. Read on to learn more.
Nothing Phone (3a) Pro vs Samsung Galaxy A55: Detailed comparison
Specs comparison
Here are the specs of Nothing Phone (3a) Pro and Samsung Galaxy A55:
As per the specs table, there are some major differences in the chipset and camera setup. In terms of raw specs, the Nothing phone appears to be the better deal, but as you know, specs don't always tell the full story. Let's kick off this comparison, starting with the design.
Design, build quality, and display

The Nothing Phone (3a) Pro looks absolutely bold and stunning, thanks to its transparent rear design. There are also LEDs throughout the rear glass, which act as a notification system. No other phone has such a unique design. The Samsung Galaxy A55 has a simple design, which is more than acceptable, but pales in comparison.
However, the Samsung phone wins in build quality. It features an aluminum side and mid-frame, which provides strength and rigidity. The rear panel is made of glass, which is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+. Therefore, it not only feels great but is also protected.
The Nothing Phone (3a) Pro doesn't have any protection for the glass back, while the rest of the body is plastic. When it comes to the screen, both phones have an AMOLED display with similar color correction and HDR capabilities.
However, Samsung claims theirs is better, hence it is named Super AMOLED, but I found them to be extremely similar in real-world use. Nonetheless, the Nothing smartphone's screen is a bit larger. For display protection, Samsung wins again, as its Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection is considered better than the Panda Glass in the Nothing phone.
Performance and gaming

When it comes to performance, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 and Exynos 1480 are extremely similar in both CPU and GPU tests. In some benchmarks, the latter leads by 3-5%, but the former takes the lead in others. Overall, they are extremely similar, and there's no real advantage to either. Therefore, both phones will deliver similar performance.
Memory and storage
Both the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro and Samsung Galaxy A55 are available in multiple memory and storage configurations. The former can be purchased in 8/12GB RAM and 128/256GB storage variants, while the latter is available in 6/8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage variants.
Therefore, you will get more RAM on the Nothing phone, even if you buy the base variant.
Camera performance

The Nothing Phone (3a) Pro features a 50+50+8MP rear camera setup. The first lens is the primary camera, the second is the periscopic telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and the last is an ultrawide camera.
On the other hand, the Samsung phone sports a 50+12+5MP rear camera setup, which consists of the main, ultrawide, and macro cameras. Unfortunately, there's no telephoto lens here.
When it comes to the main rear camera, the Samsung phone is slightly ahead in terms of details and shadow highlights. The difference is even bigger at night. This is also true for the ultrawide shots, and the Samsung phone comes out ahead once again.
However, since the Nothing phone has a dedicated telephoto lens, it is significantly better when taking zoomed pictures. Therefore, the Samsung Galaxy A55 is better in the main and ultrawide camera, while the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro is better in telephoto.
Battery, charging, and pricing
Both smartphones sport a 5,000mAh battery, so their battery life will be similar. They should deliver one full day's worth of battery life easily. However, the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro supports 50W charging, which is double that of the Samsung model. Therefore, the Nothing phone will charge a lot faster.
The Nothing Phone (3a) Pro costs ₹28,999 on Flipkart, while the Samsung Galaxy A55 is selling for ₹23,999. The former costs ₹5,000 more, which is a substantial amount.
Which smartphone should you pick?
The Samsung Galaxy A55 delivers premium build quality, front & rear glass protection, and better main & ultrawide cameras. On the other hand, the Nothing phone has a bolder design, more RAM, a telephoto camera, and faster charging.
While these are some great features indeed, the substantially higher cost of the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro negates the benefits. Therefore, we recommend the Samsung Galaxy phone over the Nothing smartphone.
